Fern Arline (Kulp) Schanley, 87, of Boyertown
Fern Arline (Kulp) Schanley, 87, of Boyertown, wife of the late Claude F. Schanley Jr., passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 surrounded by her family at Sanatoga Center.
Born in Bechtelsville and a student at Boyertown High School, she was the daughter of the late Wahlon and Viola (Eshbach) Kulp. Fern taught Sunday school at St. John Hill Church for 25 years. After finishing school she worked at Tung Saw in Boyertown. She was employed by Grant’s from the day it opened until the day it closed. She also ran the Goodwill store in the Gilbertsville Shopping Center and then worked at Engle Jewelers in Gilbertsville. She enjoyed playing cards, watching the Phillies, homemaking, gardening, spending time with family, and going to Knoebles.
Surviving is one daughter Claudia Lynn Schott of Boyertown; one grandson Bradley Christopher Schott, husband of Kristen of Boyertown; and numerous cousins.
Along with her husband and parents, Fern was predeceased by her brother Dennis Lee Kulp.
A funeral service was held Wednesday October 4, 2017 at St. John Hill Church, 620 Hill Church Rd., Boyertown, with Rev. Mary LakeDillinsnyder officiating. Interment followed at Hill Church Cemetery. Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 1020 E. Philadelphia Ave., Gilbertsville is in charge of arrangements.
