Boyertown falls to Methacton in PAC title rematch

The Methacton girls basketball team used a 10-point advantage to beat Boyertown, 39-31, on Thursday, Dec. 14 in a repeat of last season’s Pioneer Athletic Conference championsh­ip game.

Abby Penjuke finished with a double-double, scoring a gamehigh 13 points to go along with 14 rebounds as Methacton (2-2 overall) moved to 1-0 in the PAC’s Liberty Division. Kyle Webb paced Boyertown (0-1 PAC Liberty, 0-3 overall) with a team-high 11 points including a pair of 3-pointers.

Boyertown entered the fourth quarter with a 25-23 lead, but was outscord in the final eight minutes, 16-6. Sydney Tornetta chipped in with six points in the win. Julia Smith added seven in the loss for the Bears.

GOV. MIFFLIN 30, BOYERTOWN 29 » After forcing their non-league game into overtime, the Bears were edged by the Mustangs on Saturday, Dec. 16.

Kylie Webb and Julia Smith each scored nine points to lead Boyertown, which scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to erase GM’s 20-13 lead through three. The Bears found themselves trailing their hosts 8-2 after one quarter before forcing a 26-26 tie in regulation.

Boys basketball

BOYERTOWN 61, SCHUYLKILL VALLEY 36 » Zach Benning headed a trio of double-figure scorers who keyed the Bears’ non-league victory over the Devils on Saturday, Dec. 16.

Benning’s game-high 12 points all came off baskets from 3-point range. Jerry Kapp and Noah Kurtz added 11 apiece for Boyertown, which used a 30-13 scoring edge in the middle quarters to expand its early 15-10 advantage.

Wrestling

CENTRAL MOUNTAIN » Daniel Mancini headed Owen J. Roberts’ showing at the King of the Mountain Tournament, coming away with third place at 152 on Saturday, Dec. 16.

Cole Meredith came away fifth

at 145 while Antonio Petrucelli placed sixth at 138.

Boyertown’s Elijah Jones made the championsh­ip bout at 182, where he faced Blake Barrick of Big Spring. Jacob Miller wrestled for third place at 182, against Mike Kustenbaut­er of Muncy, and Zak Reck ended up eighth at 220 against Kross Todaro of Mifflin County.

Boys Swimming

OWEN J. ROBERTS 105, BOYERTOWN 65 » Simon Crew took part in four wins to lead Owen J. Roberts over Boyertown in a seasonopen­ing PAC meet Monday, Dec. 11.

Crew was an individual winner in the 200 freestyle (1:51.39) and 500 free (5:26.82) and swam on the winning 200- and 500free relays.

Matt Snyder won the 200 IM (2:09.15) and 100 breast (1:06.29) while Logan Baker swept his way through the sprints (50 free in 22.68, and 100 free in 50.45).

Boyertown an individual win in the 100 butterfly by Oliver Tye, who also swam on the winning 200 medley relay.

Girls swimming

OWEN J. ROBERTS 93, BOYERTOWN 72 » Mikayla Niness, Abbey Malmstrom and Alexa Luecke each swam to a pair of individual race wins and assisted winning relays to lead the Wildcats in their PAC season opener on Monday, Dec. 11.

Niness won the 200 free (2:02.19) and 500 free (5:33.95), Malmstrom the 200 IM (2:13.64) and 100 back (1:00.05) while Luecke took the 50 free (26.15) and 100 free (57.29).

Gabrielle McKee (100 butterfly, 1:00.08) and Emily Drabick (100 breast, 1:10.79) were winners for Boyertown.
