Miller, Reck boost Boyertown wrestling over Methacton, 43-30

Jacob Miller and Zak Reck posted consecutiv­e pins Wednesday lifting the Boyertown wrestling team to a 43-30 victory over Methacton in their Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division duel on Jan. 17.

Miller got the slap at 182 while Reck followed at 195 in a match that featured eight wins by fall. Boyertown’s Ethan Himes (138) and Evan Mortimer (160) earned pins while Elijah Jones (285) posted a 10-2 major decision at 285. Methacton’s Jorge Carmona (113), William Rebert (126) and Kibwe McNair (132) posted consecutiv­e pins while Michael Blakemore also had a pin at 170.

The Boyertown wrestling team is seeded No. 4 for the District 1-AAA Duals, which begin Thursday.

Boys basketball

NORRISTOWN 63, BOYERTOWN 54 » Four Eagles hit double digits, and the team used a 20-point fourth-quarter to seal a PAC win over the Bears on Jan. 17.

Trailing 44-43 after three quarters, Norristown used a 20-10 advantage in the final frame. Vernon Tubbs led the way with a game-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers, while Tyler Lyons (13 points), Mickell Allen (11) and Marcus Sanford (10) all had a hand in the scoring-advantage. Marcus Thomas paced Boyertown with 16 points while Jerry Kapp added 15.

METHACTON 66, BOYERTOWN 64 » The Warriors defeated the Bears in overtime in PAC Liberty Division action on Jan. 19.

David Duda led the way with 18 points, while Noah Kitaw added 14 and Jeff Woodward chipped in with 13. Boyertown had a trio of double-figure scorers, Jerry Kapp leading the way with 18 while Chris Kiefer had 11 and Sean Tamasitis 10. NORTH PENN 45, BOYERTOWN 41 » The Bears fell to the Knights during the nightcap of the Athletes For Better Education (AFBE) Showcase on Jan. 20. Jerry Kapp led the way with 20 points.

Girls basketball

METHACTON 42, BOYERTOWN 39 » Olivia Pennypacke­r hit a late 3-pointer and Sydney Tornetta scored the go-ahead bucket with 13 seconds left as the Methacton girls basketball team secured a 42-39 comefrom-behind win over Boyertown on Jan. 18 in Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division play.

Pennypacke­r led the way with a gamehigh 15 points and nine rebounds while Tornetta added 11 points as Methacton overcame a 22-15 halftime deficit. Nicole Cooper added eight points in the win while Abby Penjuke grabbed seven boards. Boyertown’s Jen O’Connor led the way with a team-high 10 points while Victoria Boalton added eight. CENTRAL DAUPHIN EAST 44, BOYERTOWN 43

» Samantha Gress hit a reverse lay-up with 20 seconds left to give the Rams a win over the Bears during the AFBE Showcase on Jan. 20.

Gress finished with 11 points while Jamie Brann scored a game-high 14 as the Rams nearly let go of a game which they led 22-15 at the half. Boyertown’s Victoria Boalton and Kylie Webb scored 10 points apiece while Julia Smith added eight with a pair of 3-pointers.

Boys swimming

BOYERTOWN 113, METHACTON 70 » Nolan Benner had two individual wins and was a part of two first-place relays during the Bears’ PAC win over the Warriors.

Benner touched first in the 200 free (1:53.35) and the 100 fly (54.90) and also swam legs of the 200 free relay (1:40.71) and 400 free relay (3:24.30). Aaron Keifer was also part of both relays and finished tops in the 50 free with a time of 23.56.

Girls swimming

BOYERTOWN 113, METHACTON 70 » Gabrielle and Grace McKee each won pairs of individual events to head the Bears’ PAC win over the Warriors.

Gabrielle got her firsts in the 200 IM (2:15.74) and 100 fly (1:02.23) while Grace won the 200 free (2:06.42) and 100 back (1:03.20).
