Lovers, extend your Valentine’s Day celebration into the weekend by taking your sweetheart to the fabulous Valentine’s Day Breakfast at historic Joanna Furnace Iron Works . . . and yes, you can bring the rest of the family. Visit Historic Joanna Furnace, savor the delicious breakfast foods the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association is known for, indulge in the traditional Hay Creek “five types of meat” breakfast menu.
An all-you-can-eat Valentine’s Breakfast Buffet, brightened by live musical performances, will be held Saturday, February 17, at Historic Joanna Furnace Iron Works. The Valentine’s Breakfast Buffet will open from 7 a.m. to noon. The Joanna Furnace kitchen’s specialties, pancakes, waffles with fruit topping and chocolate dipped strawberries will highlight the menu, as well as all the traditional breakfast fare visitors, keep returning to savor.
“This event is so fitting as a love story. Joanna Furnace is a love story in and of itself. You see, 150 years ago the love story between Miss Jennie Grubb of Lancaster and L. Heber Smith of Joanna Furnace began. After meeting in the fall of 1867, they became engaged in March 1868. That means they would have had the Valentine’s of 1868 as their first. They married in June of that year.” says Mark Zerr, Executive Director of the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association.
The Valentine’s ambiance will be enhanced by area vocal stylist Phyllis Hummel. She will play her acoustic guitar and sing a variety of romantic ballads throughout the breakfast hours. Ms. Hummel is a familiar face to the local music scene. She has been performing for more than 30 years in the Tri-County area and has been the featured performer at many area establishments.
Your Valentine and your family will also travel down memory lane by learning about the Historic Joanna Furnace Iron Works community. February marks the kick-off for the 2018 programs that our offered by the Association. Breakfast attendees can learn about all the exciting events, activities, informational programs, educational programs, restoration and archaeological projects for the upcoming year.
This year’s Valentine’s Buffet includes pancakes, waffles with fruit, scrambled eggs, cherry cobbler, hash brown potatoes, baked carved ham, chipped cream beef, bacon, scrapple, country sausage, fresh chocolate dipped strawberries, fresh fruit, orange juice, tea and coffee.
Reservations are not required for breakfast. Valentine’s Breakfast Buffet prices for individual adults is $9.50; children are welcome; ages 6 to 11 are $5 and those under 5 eat free.
