Thelma Simmons of Bechtelsville
Thelma (Reitnauer) Simmons, 83, of Bechtelsville, wife of the late John William Simmons of 61 years, passed away Friday April 13, 2018 at Frederick Living.
Born in Douglass Twp., she was the daughter of the late John R. and Annie S. (Renninger) Reitnauer.
Thelma was a graduate of Boyertown High School Class of 1952. She spent her entire career at the former National Bank of Boyertown (now BB&T) starting as a clerk in 1951, while she was still in high school. Throughout her tenure with the bank, which lasted over 45 years, she held many titles: Bookkeeper, Teller, Head Teller, Supervisory Teller, Assistant Branch Manager, and Branch Manager of the Boyertown Office. Throughout her career, she thoroughly loved her interaction with the customers.
Thelma was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sassamansville, where she formerly served as organist, choir member, and served on the church council. She was an avid animal lover with many pets over the years. She enjoyed playing games, cards, and family activities. In her earlier years, she could be found watching her grandchildren in their various sports endeavors. Thelma also enjoyed watching professional sports teams and Legion baseball with her husband John.
Surviving is one son Timothy Simmons husband of Bonnie of Douglassville; three grandchildren Adrienne Stumhofer wife of Matthew of Reading, Matthew Simmons husband of Tina of Woodbridge, VA, and Brett Simmons of Monroeville; two great grandchildren Lucas and Aubrey Stumhofer; one brother Gerald Reitnauer husband of Pat; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1809 Hoffmansville Rd., Sassamansville, PA 19472, with Rev. Matthew Finney officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:30-10:45 AM at the church. Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 1020 E. Philadelphia Ave., Gilbertsville is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Thelma’s memory to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at the address listed above.
