Patsy Hahn awarded Boyertown State Theatre’s 2018 Volunteer of the Year
The State Theatre Preservation Society recently held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Night to honor and recognize those who have helped make the society a success during the past year. The event was held at the State Theatre on Feb. 10 and featured a short film as well as wine and hors d’oeuvres.
State Theatre Preservation Society President Charles Haddad welcomed all of those in attendance with a brief review of the past year as well as the introduction of several programs that will be introduced at the State Theatre in 2019.
There were more than 17,000 patrons that came to the State Theatre to enjoy first-run movies in 2018. In addition, many more attended audience participation events such as The Right Price, Bingo and the Money Grab.
The State Theatre also hosted a concert by up and coming country artist Stephanie Grace as well as theatre productions of Elvis and the Shoemaker by the Yocum Institute For Arts Education from Sinking Spring and “Pinocchio” by the Kutztown-based Talisman Players.
State Theatre Preservation Society Manager Shannon Anthony presented the Volunteer of the Year award to Patsy Hahn for her dedicated service to the State Theatre.
“Patsy is a regular concession stand volunteer on Friday nights where she meets and greets the theatre patrons and serves them their popcorn, soda and candy,” said Anthony.
Hahn was presented with the Volunteer of the Year Plaque which will be displayed in the Theatre lobby.
The new year promises to be even more exciting. Recently the Talisman Players performed two completely sold out shows of the “Wizard of Oz” which were followed with a meet and greet with cast members and a luncheon. The Talisman Players will return later this year for another production. In addition, the Yocum Institute will return to the State Theatre on April 6 and 7 for the live stage production of “Art Dog.”
The State Theatre will begin a Classic Movie program that will be held in the afternoons of the third Sunday of every month (except April). There will be a social gathering featuring a cash bar and lite bites followed by a classic movie. The first classic movie will be “Sleepless in Seattle,” featuring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan on March 14 with seating limited to 100 patrons. Tickets are available at the box office or online at www.BoyertownStateTheatre.com.
The Theatre is also working on a program for area teens to show four movie premiers for teens only as well as a presentation by the Yocum Institute on current topics of suicide prevention or opioid abuse. The first teen movie premier will be on March 8 at 4 p.m. and will feature “Captain Marvael.” A free pizza dinner will follow the movie at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Tickets are available at the box office or online at www.BoyertownStateTheatre.com.
The State Theatre truly is more than just movies. The Theatre provides a friendly and comfortable atmosphere for families to enjoy first run movies, high quality theatre productions and audience participation activities. A fully stocked concession stand and bar serving wine and beer allow the State Theatre to provide all of the comforts of the multiscreen theatres at a fraction of the cost.
