OJR’s Honicker, PV’s Peterlin, Warren win titles

Owen J. Roberts senior Scott Honicker and Perkiomen Valley seniors Cole Peterlin and Christina Warren were event champions Sunday at the PTFCA Indoor Track and Field Championsh­ips at Penn State University.

Honicker bested the field in the semifinals and final. His 8.04 in the final topped Hempfield Area’s Jared Bannon’s 8.10.

Warren repeated as triple jump champion, her 4010 well ahead of the field – West York’s Tesia Thomas was second with a 38-11½. The two-time Mercury AllArea Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year hit her best mark on her final attempt, improving on 407½ (third try). Warren was within striking distance of the meet record, a 40-11½

Warren also placed second in the 60-meter hurdles, her 8.45 in the finals bested only by Conestoga Valley senior Jane Livingston (8.38). She took silver in the long jump as well. Warren jumped 18-6½ on her final attempt but couldn’t top the 19-3¾ of North Penn senior Natalie Kwortnik.

In the boys’ 60 meters, Norristown’s Austin Montgomery placed seventh with a 7.03 in the final. Perkiomen Valley’s Azeez Adedokun was 19th in preliminar­ies with a 7.15 and did not qualify for the semifinals. Montgomery, a junior, also took fifth in the 200 meters with a 21.91.
