History Talks with Bob Wood return at Studio B

-

Local historian, former public school English teacher, writer, presenter, potter, and fine art painter Bob Wood announced his spring schedule of informal discussions of local history at Studio B Art Gallery on Sundays from 2 to 3 p.m. (Please note the new start time.)

Wood has published four books of local history that he offers for sale. He is a popular presenter among groups dedicated to preserving local history; his articles appear in assorted publications.

Wood serves as gallery adjunct at Studio B. In addition to hosting his popular history talks, his varied roles include funding support of exhibits of emerging artists along with his own artwork and the artwork of his wife Sandy Wood, longtime Boyertown Area School District art instructor; assistance in staging exhibits of local artists at local businesses; facilitating poetry readings and book signings; and participation in community events.

A retrospective of Wood’s paintings are currently on exhibit at the Mennonite Heritage Center, Harleysville, through March 22.

March 10: Medieval to Modern: Fire, Hearth, and Stove — Smoke-free iron heating stoves cast as early as 1725 at Colebrookdale furnace were a long time developing from European medieval hovels heated with just a small open fire on the floor.

March 17: Colonial Forges on the Schuylkill Watershed — Colonialera forges were essential in making usable iron for blacksmiths, yet they remain little understood.

April 14: The Story of Henry Antes — and the rescue and restoration of the Henry Antes House by the Goschenhoppen Historians.

April 28: The Story of Corn — Aside from wheat, no crop was more essential to early farms.

May 5: Shorts — There are many topics of local 18th century life that are interesting, yet too short for an hour-long discussion. Speaker’s choice and attendees’ choice.

Studio B, located in the heart of historic Boyertown, is the home of the Arts and Activities Alliance, a committee of Building a Better Boyertown, a nonprofit Main Street program dedicated to revitalizing small towns.
