Officials update public on Edison Walk development

- By Keith Smoker

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP >> Township supervisors provided an update at a recent meeting on proposed plans for the Edison Walk development on Route 100.

The update followed a joint planning commission/ supervisors meeting in July to discuss the plans.

At the last supervisors meeting, the board agreed to continue talks with Prestige Properties of Ambler about rezoning in order to allow commercial properties on the Route 100 portion of the proposed development.

The 125-acre development tract was started by developer Richard Mingy, who built about 100 townhomes and single-family dwellings before losing the property to the bank several years ago. That left the remainder undeveloped, with unfinished roads prompting resident concerns.

The original development plan called for commercial zoning for the corridor, but that was rescinded once Prestige purchased the property. That prompted Prestige to request a change from highdensity residential back to commercial, again allowing businesses along the state road.

Prestige has three concept sketches from which township officials can choose, but no formal plans have been submitted.

Supervisor James Roma said planners at July’s joint meeting saw a fourth sketch plan, which he said looked better and incorporated the best parts of the other three. The fourth sketch was not available Thursday, but Roma said it includes more single-family dwellings and quad-style units.

Township Solicitor Daniel Becker said he received an email from the developer’s solicitor requesting a meeting to discuss technical details.

The board agreed to schedule that meeting.

According to officials, the developers plan to submit a formal plan in three to four months.

In other business, the board approved the adoption of an MS4 pollution reduction plan for submission to the state’s Department of
