A Berks County man faces some time behind bars and inpatient drug treatment after he admitted to illegal drug activity in Lower Pottsgrove.

Cory Lee Ludwig, 26, of the 4000 block of Friedensburg Road, was sentenced in Montgomery

County Court to 11½ to 23 months in the county jail after he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine in connection with a July 2019 incident.

Judge Steven T. O’Neill, who accepted a plea agreement in the case, said Ludwig also must complete two years’ probation following parole, meaning Ludwig will be under court supervision for about four years.

Furthermore, the judge said, Ludwig can be paroled only to an inpatient treatment facility. Ludwig must undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and comply with all recommendations for treatment, according to the terms of the plea agreement.

An investigation of Ludwig began about 1:30 p.m. July 27, when Lower Pottsgrove police encountered Ludwig in a red Saab vehicle parked to the rear of the Days Inn off Industrial Highway, according to court papers.

“In plain sight on the floor of the vehicle between the passenger seat and the passenger door was a glass pipe containing a crystalized rocklike substance consistent with methamphetamine,” Lower Pottsgrove Police Officer Richard Ryan Smith alleged in the arrest affidavit, adding Ludwig subsequently admitted to having “meth” and “weed” in the vehicle.

Ludwig allegedly gave police consent to search the vehicle.

During that search, police recovered two clear jars containing a substance consistent with methamphetamine, several multi-colored glass bowls containing marijuana residue, a sandwich bag containing Psilocybin mushrooms, two digital scales, numerous clear sandwich bags and hypodermic needles, according to the criminal complaint.

“Based on my training and experience, these items are consistent with the sale of illegal narcotics,” Smith alleged.

Other charges of possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed against Ludwig as part of the plea agreement.
