13 honored for aggressive-driving enforcement
Thirteen Berks County police officers and their departments were recognized Friday for dedication to aggressive-driving enforcement during the past year.
Representatives of the the Highway Safety Network and its Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project honored law enforcement officers during a program at the Exeter Township municipal building.
PennDOT channels state and federal funds to the program with the aim of preventing fatalities and injuries.
High-visibility enforcement activity is the greatest deterrent to dangerous driving behaviors, said Robin Rivera of the network.
She said police in Berks County don’t just stop drivers, they make arrests for impaired driving, drug possession and other crimes.
Each individual who received an award was nominated by their department’s chief, Rivera said.
Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams, who handed out the certificates of appreciation to the officers who could attend, thanked all who participated.
“I realize all of you have done a great job making our roads safe in Berks County,” he said, noting that more than 1,200 alcoholor drug-impaired drivers have been taken off Berks roads in each of the past two years.
