Red Cross launches portal to help struggling families
Families in Berks County struggling with loss and grief due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic have a new resource available.
The American Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania Region has launched a virtual family assistance center to support these families. The center is available online at readcross.org/get-help or by phone at 833-492-0094.
Families can access a support hub with special virtual programs, information, referrals and support services. The center can also connect people to other community resources provided by the American Red Cross and other partners.
Families who have lost a loved one in the pandemic have faced additional challenges. For many, the passing was unexpected and the restrictions due to the pandemic have disrupted the bereavement and grief process. The Red Cross has set up a virtual team of specially trained mental health, spiritual care and health services volunteers to help those families.
“This is an incredibly difficult time for everyone, but especially for those who have lost a loved one due to COVID-19,” said Patricia Waldinger, regional CEO of the Greater Pennsylvania Region, in a press release. “We want them to know that the Red Cross is here to provide compassion and support as they grieve.” The volunteers will: • Connect with families over the phone to offer condolences, support and access to resources.
• Provide support for virtual memorial services for families, including connections to faith-based community partners.
• Host online classes to foster resilience and facilitate coping skills.
• Share information and referrals to state and local agencies as well as other community resources for estate, custody, immigration and other issues.
All of the resources are provided virtually and are confidential and free.
