Dec. 18

COVID vaccine clinics: 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 18at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 5Brooke Manor, Birdsboro. The clinic is operated by Berks Community Care. They will return on Jan. 15from 9a.m. to noon for follow ups. No appointments are necessary. All vaccines will be available including Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, boosters and pediatric. Dec. 18

Free Drive-Thru Community Meal: noon at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 611 Swamp Creek Road, Bechtelsville. Follow the signs to the back of the church.

Dec. 21

Free Holiday Concert: 7 p.m. at Keystone Villa at Douglassville, 1180Ben Franklin Highway E., in Douglassville. Concert by Exeter Community Band, a Exeter Township nonprofit community concert band of about 40members. Enjoy Christmas cookies and eggnog. RSVP by Dec. 17; call Tina or Brittni at 610-385-5000.

WEEKLY EVENTS

Fit and Fabulous Wednesdays: 9 a.m. at Birdsboro Community Memorial Center. Exercise class for seniors to improve balance, strength, flexibility, and overall mobility while moving to music. Taught by a licensed physical therapist. Chairs provided. Exercises customized to fit ability. Free for members.

Birdsboro Senior Group: meets the first and third Thursday of each month at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 5Brooke Manor in Birdsboro. Doors open at 9a.m. Anyone age 55and older from the Birdsboro area welcome. Bingo on first Thursday and craft on third Thursday, both start at 9:30a.m. A home cooked meal is served at noon. Transportation is available if needed; call the church office at 610-5828167to make arrangements.

OPTIMIST CLUB

Daniel Boone Optimist Club Essay Contest: Compose a 700to 800word essay on the topic “How Does an Optimistic Mindset Change My Tomorrow?” Open to youth younger than age 19as of Oct. 1, 2021 (and not enrolled as a degree seeking student of a post-secondary institution.) Entry due to Daniel Boone Optimist Club by Feb. 4. Mail essay and completed application to Attention to Anne Pyle, Essay Contest Chair, Daniel Boone Optimist Club, P.O. Box 98, Douglassville, PA 19518. The club winner will be awarded $150 and will advance to the District Level competition where the winner is awarded a $2,500 scholarship.
