The Bally Lions Club presented this year’s Lion of the Year Award to longtime member Fred Kroncke, who was also installed as the new club president.

During the Club Installation Banquet held recently at Main Street Pub in Bally, past District Governor Lion Gary Hilbert officially installed Kroncke as club president and outgoing president Matt Gehringer handed over the club’s gavel to Kroncke. Hilbert also swore in six new members to the club.

Lion Donnie Conrad chairs the club’s medical equipment collection project. His wife Janet Conrad received special recognition for her much appreciated assistance and involvement.

The project involves collecting new and gently used donated medical equipment, which is then cleaned and sanitized, recorded, and stored in the club’s shed located at 50 N. Fourth St., Bally, next to the Bally Community Park. If there is a need for equipment — such as walkers, wheelchairs, crutches, commodes, hospital beds — an individual can call a club member to request an item, free of charge. To request medical apparatus, call 610-845-2564.

The club also celebrated the four recipients of the Scott Moll Scholarship. This is the first year of presenting a scholarship in memory of Scott Moll who served as an active member of the Bally Lions Club for many years.

Four local students “more than qualified,” as one of the selection committee member’s remarked.

Abigail Moll, daughter of Mark and Valerie Moll, plans to attend Penn State Berks.

Courtney Jarvis, daughter of Peter and Peggy Jarvis, and Kasey Gress, daughter of Greg and Kristy Gress, both plan to attend Wilkes University with a pharmacy major.

Allison Pioli, daughter of Vincent and Donna Pioli, plans to major in math or chemistry at Shippensburg University.
