Concert season features multiple musical heritages

An ukulele master, a “Masked Singer” winner and a Prince tribute band make up the upcoming season at Campbell’s Heritage Theatre.

The first two acts were rescheduled from the theater’s 2019-20 season. American ukulele virtuoso and composer Jake Shimabukuro is set to perform Nov. 4, and Leann Rimes follows on Nov. 18.

Since the video of his take on George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” went viral in 2005, the Hawaiian-born Shimabukuro has become known as “the Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele.” In addition to reinterpreting classic rock songs, he composes originals like “Mahalo John Wayne.”

Country music superstar Leann Rimes will perform a solo acoustic set at the Heritage Theatre, sans the Sun costume she wore on “The Masked Singer.” Rimes holds the distinction of being the youngest recipient of a Grammy Award after being named “Best New Artist” at age 14. This was the first of many awards she’s received in a career that includes 15 Top 10 singles.

Purple reign

The Heritage Theatre’s season closes on Feb. 25, with a show by The Purple Xperience, a five-piece group hailing from Prince’s birthplace of Minneapolis. Since 2011 the band has been touring to bring audiences the music of Prince and The Revolution.

Lead singer Marshall Charloff not only bears a striking resemblance to Prince but is, like the late artist, a multi-instrumentist. Charloff recorded with Prince on the album “94 East,” where he plays both keyboards and bass guitar, with Prince on lead vocals.

All performances are at 8 p.m. at the Heritage Theatre at the Campbell Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave. Individual show tickets are $49$70 at 408-866-2700 or Heritagetheatre.org. members. For more information, visit http:// www.campbellmuseums. com/shop or call 408-8662718.
