Local eateries make the Thanksgivi­ng feasts easy as pie

Don’t want to spend your entire holiday in the kitchen? Here are some local alternativ­es.

Flights Los Gatos will become a popup, with owner Alex Hult serving up favorites from his old Hult’s menu, including pan roasted salmon, Swedish meatballs (made his mom’s way), classic turkey and sweet potato ravioli. The Hult’s Thanksgivi­ng feast will be served noon-8 p.m., with guests offered a choice of three appetizers, four entrees and two desserts for $65 per person. Children under 10 eat free.

Grocer & Goddess, a hotspot for culinary gifts and treats in Los Gatos, will offer a special Thanksgivi­ng menu, including butternut squash and pear soup for two, a butter lettuce and feta cheese salad for six to eight, plus an oven roasted turkey breast to serve two or four ($80) or a pre-brined bird that serves six to eight to roast at home ($150). Accompanim­ents like turkey gravy, mac ’n’ cheese, turkey pot pie, maple yams, mashed potatoes, stuffing, mushroom bread pudding, roasted autumn vegetables, cranberry sauce, rustic dinner rolls, shortbread cookies and pumpkin, pecan or apple pie are all available as add-ons. Manresa Bread is offering festive Thanksgivi­ng selections for preorder and pick-up at its Campbell, Los Gatos and Los Altos locations. Choose from traditiona­l pies like apple streusel and rye pecan; pumpkin cheesecake and chocolate pumpkin pound cake; macaroons and tins with five kinds of cookies made with different flours like teff, rye and Einkorn.

Don’t forget the signature sourdough and naturally leavened breads made with house-milled flour. There’s also a chocolate cherry loaf and the tempting XL Bretonstyl­e Kouign-amann, not to mention butter buns. For those who wish food delivered, Shop Locale will offer some helpful options, including delivery on the Wednesday before Thanksgivi­ng. Order a spiral-cut ham (pre-cooked) or a turkey to roast at home from Freedom Meats, accompanie­d by gravy, sweet potatoes and green beans from various providers. There will be some notable closures as well. Shepherd & Sims will be dark on Thanksgivi­ng so Jim Stump and his staff can have a day off. Ditto ASA Los Gatos, Steamers, The Bywater, The Lexington and the Wine Cellar in Los Gatos, as well as Flowers and Hero Ranch Kitchen in Saratoga.

Ainsley House garden concert

Ainsley House is presenting its fall garden concert with singer/songwriter Ren Geisick on Sunday. The concert, set for 2 p.m., is being presented by the Campbell Museum Foundation and the San Jose Guitar School of Music.

Geisick’s sound has elements of jazz, country, soul, and blues. She’ll be performing with a full band at the Ainsley House Garden, 300 Grant St. Light appetizers and drinks will be offered. Seating is first come, first served for this outdoor event. Unvaccinat­ed people are asked to wear a mask.

Westmont stages ‘Wind’

Westmont High School’s theater department is staging “Inherit the Wind” through Nov. 20. The play is loosely based on the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial, which pitted Charles Darwin’s

theory of evolution against the Bible’s story of creation.

LGBTQ+ town hall

Dr. Karen Goldsen of the Santa Clara County Office of LGBTQ Affairs will present an overview of survey findings from the LGBTQ+ Older Adults in Santa Clara County Project at a Nov. 17 town hall meeting. The virtual meeting, set for 5-6:30 p.m., will address findings from the county’s recent survey and share how this new data will be used to improve programs, policies and resources to support LGBTQ+ older adults. Attendees can provide input on priorities for next steps to best support LGBTQ+ older adults in the county.
