Five arrested after store employee shot multiple times
A worker was shot as he chased a group who had robbed a Campbell camera store Jan. 25, authorities said, and five suspects later were arrested.
The robbery was reported at 10:57 a.m. at
San Jose Camera & Video in the 1600 block of South Winchester Boulevard, according to a news release from the Campbell Police Department.
Police said five suspects brandished firearms as they stole thousands of dollars worth of camera equipment. A store employee then followed them to a getaway vehicle as they fled the scene and gunfire ensued, leaving the employee with several gunshot wounds.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition as of Jan. 26. Authorities did not immediately specify if there had been a confrontation between the employee and the suspects after they fled the store but before the shooting.
Authorities later located five suspects matching witness descriptions in Oakland. Five suspects — Orlando Oliva, 22; Paris Williams, 22; Darrin Bedford, 23; Kenneth Martin, 23; and Freddy Mccardie, 21, all of Oakland — were arrested by 2:20 p.m. Jan. 25 on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery with firearm, kidnapping and conspiracy.
They were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail.
“We understand that incidents of this nature can generate feelings of fear and anxiety,” said Campbell Police Chief Gary Berg. “I want to assure our community that those who come to Campbell and threaten the safety of our community will be held accountable for their actions.”
Calls to San Jose Camera & Video were not answered Jan. 26.
