Lizzie West scores late to lift Southern

Lizzie West fired a hard shot from the top of the circle with two minutes left in regulation that deflected off a North County defender to give Southern the 2-1 win on Thursday in field hockey.

Britney Castle opened the scoring for the Knights early in the second half, but Sarah Smith converted a pass from Lindsey Crawford a few minutes later to knot the score at 1 and set up West’s heroics.

Carly West made seven saves for Southern (8-3), while Sarah Thompson stopped eight shots for North County (2-5).

Emma Fontz scored three goals and Kaiya Sabur had two goals and three assists to lead the Patriots past the Mustangs.

Erin Osborne had a goal and two assists and Allyna Threatt and Kenzie Turpin scored two goals each and Maddie Sobolewski and Becca Creekmore also scored goals. Shelby Kingston, Grace Peacy and Malea Sharps had one assist apiece for Old Mill (6-5).

OLD MILL 12, MEADE 0:

Madelyn Pesz had 27 saves for Meade (2-8).

Sophia Petrini tallied a pair of goals, while Delaney Snowden and Sasha Zimmerman each added a goal, as the Obezags shout out the Cubs.

Addison Niese recorded an assist for Key (5-3).
