■ Braves: Bryse Wilson pitched five scoreless innings, Marcell Ozuna drove in five runs with four hits that included two homers and the Braves clinched their third straight NL East title by beating the visiting Marlins 11-1 on Tuesday night. The Braves hit five HRs, including drive by Dansby Swanson and Freddie Freeman off Nick Vincent in a five-run seventh. Freeman drove in two runs with three hits. After Jorge Alfaro lined out to Freeman to end the game, Braves players hugged on the field and exchanged high-fives in the dugout. Wilson (1-0) allowed three hits and one walk, striking out a careerhigh seven. It was an unexpected showing by the 22year-old right-hander, who hada 7.04ERAin four relief outings and had been at the team’s alternate training site until Monday. He hadn’t started since July 2019. The Braves clinched their record 20th division title, one more than the Yankees. The Braves won 14 straight in completed seasons from1991-2005 but haven’t won a postseason series since 2001 and haven ’twon aWorld Series since beating the Indians in 1995.

■ Indians: With one swing, Jose Ramirez pushed the Indians in the playoffs and strengthen­ed his case for the ALMVP award. Ramirez hit a three-run HR with two outs in the 10th, giving the host Indians a 5-3 win over the White Sox that clinched a postseason berth Tuesday night. Ramirez’s drive to right off Jose Ruiz scored Cesar Hernandez and Francisco Lindor, setting off a wild celebratio­n at home plate as the Indians reached the postseason for the fourth time in five years.

■ Padres: RHP Mike Clevinger of the playoffbou­nd Padres lasted only one inning in his start against the visiting Angels on Wednesday. The team initially said the early departure was unplanned but didn’t provide any other informatio­n. Clevinger’s start had been pushed back from Saturday night because of tightness in his right biceps. Manager Jayce Tingler said Tuesday that Clevinger threw a bullpen session Monday. Clevinger, obtained in a blockbuste­r trade with the Indians on Aug. 31, breezed through the first inning on 12 pitches, including striking out Mike Trout and David Fletcher. Rookie Adrian Morejon began warming up in the bullpen while the Padres batted in the bottom of the inning and came out to start the second.

■ MLB: Major League Baseball is making the independen­t Atlantic League its first “partner league,” a distinctio­n awarded as the expiration nears of MLB’s agreement with the affiliated National Associatio­n of Profession­al Baseball Leagues. MLB said it will meet regularly with the Atlantic League to discuss joint marketing and promotiona­l opportunit­ies. The sides extended their agreement through 2023 to stage experiment­s in the Atlantic League, which tested an automated ballstrike system to call pitches in 2019 and has used other innovation­s such as limits on defensive shifts and mound visits, larger bases and shorter breaks between half-innings.
