Outdoor concerts, art shows, debate watch party upcoming
Friday marks the first time since the pandemic started that indoor concert venuesandtheaters willopen, thoughtherewill be restrictions on capacity.
It is another signal in a growing recovery in Anne Arundel County from the coronavirus pandemic, though it is far from over, according to health experts. Here is a look at upcoming shows and other events in the coming days.
Keep an eye out for other events as theaters and concert venues prepare their businesses for indoor shows.
Market Fall Show
Annapolis artists begin their fall show Saturday and will continue it eachweekend through Sunday, Oct. 4. The Annapolis Artisans Market will have a bevy of goods and work on display for browsing and purchase.
The fall show runs from10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be a total of12local businesses represented at the market. TheFacebook event states thework includes furniture, art and home decor items.
The event is hosted by Local by Design at the Gallery, Old Things New, Paintings by Katherine Carney and PageWinter Studio.
Kunte Kinte Ceremony
Maryland House Speaker Adrienne Jones, Chris Haley, nephew of the late author Alex Haley, and others will speak briefly at noon Tuesday at the Kunte Kinte Alex Haley Memorial at City Dock in Annapolis.
The annual ceremony marks the arrival in Annapolis of the Lord Ligonier in 1767, a British ship that carried a cargo of enslaved people fromAfrica includingHaley’s ancestor, Kunte Kinte.
Alex Haley retold the story as part of his 1976 novel, “Roots: The Saga of an American Family.” Audience members will be asked to throwrose petals in remembrance.
Electronic vehicles
A fleet of electric vehicles will be parked on Maryland Avenue from 6 to 8 p.m. to Wednesday. The street will be closed to car traffic though outdoor dining will be allowed. Owners of the vehicles will answer questions and dealers will be on-site aswell.
Included in the display will be the first all-electric police patrol vehicle. Cars on display include the Chevrolet Bolt, Tesla Model S, Volkswagen e-Golf, Harley Davidson LiveWire and others. The event is hosted by Annapolis Green, an advocacy organization focusing on green and renewable energy.
A fundraising dinner will be taking place at Galway Bay Irish Restaurant, located on Maryland Avenue, to benefit Annapolis Green. Diners can reserve ahead or mention Annapolis Green at the door.
Event organizers are asking participants towear a mask and followsocial distancing regulations. This event is one of a few being held by Annapolis Green to recognize National Drive ElectricWeek.
Truxtun Park Lap Pool, fall recreation and fitness
The newly renovated Truxtun Park pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 4. The leisure pool closed Thursday.
Registration for fall programs continues at the PipMoyerRecreation Center. Aguide for those programs can be found online at the recreation center’s website. Of note: There is still space available for youth fencing classes for ages 9 through16. It is an eight-week course and classes began Sept.
14. There are different classes for varying skill levels.
Other fall programsinclude learninghow to ride a bicycle and playing soccer.
The recreation center is also offering outdoor fitness classes starting Friday. Belowis a provided list of those classes:

Presidential debate watch party
The Anne Arundel County Republican Party is holding a presidential debatewatch party from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at Glory Days Grill inEdgewater. Theevent is posted on Facebook and tickets are limited due to indoor coronavirus pandemic regulations.
President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee, and former vice-president, JoeBidenwill take the stage together for the first time this election. Each ticket is $45 per person.
