“We were just kind of in awe. His body kept coming and coming. It was a sight to be seen. … He’s super cute. Tons of rolls, cheeks for days.”

Chrissy Bianco, labor and delivery nurse

Every birth is a big deal for parents, but the birth ofWaylon JamesVickerswas a really, really big deal for Easton couple Jessica Passwaters and James Vickers had.

At 13.02 pounds and 22 inches in height, Waylon, delivered via cesarean section on Sept. 16, is the biggest newborn in Anne Arundel Medical Center’s recent history.

“We were just kind of in awe,” labor and delivery nurse Chrissy Bianco said. “His body kept coming and coming. It was a sight to be seen.… He’s super cute. Tons of rolls, cheeks for days.”

The Annapolis hospital does not track the long-term history of its biggest babies, but spokeswoman Ar minta Plater said Waylon is the biggest born this year.

Bianco hasworked at the hospital for 18yearsandtheother nursewhohelped deliverWaylon, Kara Barnett, has been delivering babies there for 15 years. Both said they have never seen a baby as big asWaylon.

“I remember thinking we’re not going to have any diapers that fit him,” Barnett said. “I don’t think we really anticipated just howbig hewould be.”

As Barnett ran down to the pediatric unit to grab Waylon larger diapers, Bianco attempted to get him to his mother.

“WhenI pickedhimupto takehimto see his mom for the first time, he filled upmy entire arms,” Bianco said.

“Hewas just solid. Gettinghimon his mama’s chest in the operating room was a bit of a challenge. We had to maneuver some stuff to get his body on her.”

If you’re having trouble understanding just how big baby Waylon is, he came out weighing as much as two bricks or six and a half pineapples. In Maryland terms, that’s 34 cans of Old Bay.

It’s also as much as a Thanksgiving

turkey that could feed 10 people. If you think carrying thathomefromthe grocery store is hard, imagine carrying it in your belly.

“I can’t imagine carrying a baby that large,” Barrett said.

“(Passwaters) came in happy, smiling, shewas just a delight to take care of. Tosee that size baby come out was pretty remarkable. I’m glad she’s getting the recognition that she’s getting.”

Waylon’s 4-year-old brother was 9.9 pounds when he was born, so Passwaters expected another big baby. But not quite as big asWaylon.

She said she andWaylon are both doing well.

“He’s a big guy so he’s feeding a lot but other than that we’re good,” Passwaters said.
