School protesters
I wanted to first applaud the Capital Gazette Editorial Board for your editorial “Beware Reckless Republican Leaders Who Claim They Know Better on Coronavirus” proving once again the value of a local press who work to hold our local leaders accountable, and highlighting the misstep of the Tribune in closing the Annapolis office (The Capital, Sept. 15).
However, I would be remiss to ignore the blatant omissions of two of the speakers at the Reopen Schools Rally.
One Republican leader not taken to task is Del. Sid Saab, an elected official not only in the office but who sits on theHealth and Government Operations Committee, with ahistory of encouraging unsafe behavior to business owners during the pandemic and whose own health clinic was cited for non-compliance creating a local health crisis invalidating the coronavirus tests of approximately 300 patients.
The second stunning omission was Board of Education candidate Corine Frank who spoke at the Reopen Schools rally on the same day Maryland was reinstated to the list of states banned from travel to New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
The fact that she is running for a non-partisan seat and yet is still the executive director of the Republican Party, a startling conflict of interest. Further, Frank is treating the deadly coronavirus pandemic (which has now killed 200,000 Americans) in a casual “Trumpish” manner.
Given her bad decision to attend this reopen rally and not wear a mask, I would hate to see her make decisions on behalf of thousands of our county’s school children.
Iwould, however, highly recommend to those who live in the Glen Burnie area to vote for Ken Baughman, Board of Education, candidate for District 3, who believes in science and wears a mask to protect himself and himself.
Choose wisely.
Choose common sense. Vote for Ken. SHARONBLUGIS
