Buffett brings his style to the city

Performs atop iconic Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse

After drawing attention for his love of a crab bisque from a Cecil County restaurant Monday, Jimmy Buffett was spotted at another Chesapeake locale Friday morning in Annapolis.

Buffett performed two songs at Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse early Friday morning for a new music video series following the singer on his voyage from Long Island, NewYork to the

Bahamas.

Buffett, a sailor and lighthouse enthusiast, is anchoring at various seaside sights along the way since the pandemic canceled most concerts.

Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse is an iconic Annapolis sight that caught the “Margaritaville” singer’s eye. Plans to get Buffett and his crew out on the Chesapeake Bay for the perfect sunrise backdrop were hastily arranged Thursday night.

Buffett, 73, used the Naval Academy and Annapolis harbor as backdrops for video shoots the day before, swirling speculation on social media the island idol was in the port town. His not-so-subtle 42-foot seafoam catamaran powerboat indiscreetly named Last Mango, after his 14th studio album “Last Mango in Paris,” was discovered at the Annapolis Yacht Club.

In a video shot Thursday

with drones over waters near the Naval Academy, Buffett’s other vessel Drifterwas surrounded by smaller sailboats steered by midshipmen. Buffett has been spotted throughout the area this week with sightings of his vessel in the North Chesapeake onMonday.

Buffett is a fan of the Naval Academy, history and lighthouses, in particular, said Preservation Foreman John Potvin, driving Buffett’s decision to shoot at the

Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse as an ode to all things sailing.

Potvin and David Gendell, whose new book “Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse: A Chesapeake Bay Icon” publishes Monday, were asked to join the video team at the lighthouse, trading historical facts for front rowseats to Buffett’s performance.

In the early morning light, Buffett played one song up in the gallery and another in the lighthouse’s parlor. The song selection is under wraps until the video debuts.

“It was incredible,” Potvin said. “He’s sung songs all over the seas formany years. That’s what it’s all about.”
