Prescott to miss rest of season

Dak Prescott will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery for a compound fracture and dislocatio­n of his right ankle Sunday night.

The two-time Pro Bowl quarterbac­k suffered the gruesome injury during the third quarter of the Cowboys’ victory over the Giants. Prescott lower leg got caught under Giants DB Logan Ryan on a tackle at the end of a 9-yard run.

Andy Dalton took over for Prescott on Sunday and will be the team’sNo. 1QB going forward.

The Cowboys signed the 32-yearold former Pro Bowler during the offseason after he was released by the Bengals, who drafted LSU QB and Ohio native Joe Burrowwith the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Dalton led the Bengals to the playoffs five straight seasons during nine years as the starter, but he was 0-4 in the postseason and missed the fifth appearance with an injury.

■ The winless Falcons named defensive coordinato­r Raheem Morris interim head coach a day after firing Dan Quinn. Morris was head coach of the Buccaneers from2009 to 2011. ... The Bears kept all of their practice squad players home and altered Monday’s schedule after practice squad OL Badara Traore tesed positive for COVID-19 last weekend. ... Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins likely will miss up to two games because of a hamstring injury, ESPNreport­ed. ... Cardinals All-ProLBChand­lerJones may miss the rest of the season after suffering a biceps injury during Sunday’s win over the Jets.

College football: The MissouriVa­nderbilt game scheduled for Saturday in Columbia, Mo., was postponed to a later date, tentativel­y Dec. 12, making it the first SEC game to be moved this season because of issues related to COVID-19. The postponeme­ntwas due to a lack of scholarshi­p athletes. It’s the 28th FBS game to be postponed or canceled since Aug. 26.

Golf: Martin Laird of Scotland made a 20-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a playoff Sunday to beat MatthewWol­ff andAustin Cook and win the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas. It was the fourth PGA Tour title and first in seven years for the 37-year-old Laird, who also won the 2009 tournament in a three-man playoff.

NHL: The Golden Knights signed defenseman­AlexPietra­ngelo, 30, to a seven-year deal worth $8.8 million a year, according to reports Monday. The three-time All-Star spent the first 12 seasons of his career with the Blues, serving as captain since 2016 and helping the team win its first Stanley Cup in 2019. ... The Canadiens signed forward Tyler Toffoli to a four-year, $17 million deal. Toffoli, 28, finished last season with the Canucks following a February trade fromthe Kings.

Soccer: Former U.S. women’s national team manager Jill Ellis is on the list of candidates for the vacant managerial post at D.C. United, according to reports. Ellis, 54, if hired, would be the first woman to manage anMLSclub.
