Rainfall of nearly 3 inches shatters 1967 mark
Nearly 3 inches of rain fell in the Baltimore region Monday, shattering a record from1967 as wet weather pelted the area bringing flood and tornado warnings, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service said it’s the fifth wettest November on record with 2.74 inches. Previously the recordwas1.19 inches set in1967, according to theweather service.
A flood warning was issued by the weather service for Anne Arundel County until 11 p.m. Monday as heavy rain continued tomove through the region.
Thefloodingwas expected to affectDock Street in Annapolis and BowyerRoad at the NavalAcademy, withupto one foot ofwater in low lying areas. High tide in Annapolis this morning is at 7:04.
The Maryland State Highway Administration reported highwater betweenRutland Road andHuntwood Drive in Anne Arundel County that closed all lanes around 4 p.m.
The weather service also issued a tornadowatch for parts ofMaryland, which was in effect until 7 p.m. and covered Calvert and St. Mary’s counties, but earlier in the day it covered much ofMaryland.
Anne Arundel County was under a severe thunder storm warning earlier in the day.
The rainy conditions come after a warm and sunny holiday weekend in the region. The weather service saidMonday’s rainfall could be up to 2 inches in some areas, though most will get around an inch.
Tuesday has a 20% chance of rain, and lower temperature sand blustery conditions are likely. The high Tuesday is 47 degrees. After Tuesday, sunny skies and cool weather will be in the region before showers potentially return Friday.
