‘2020 People of the Year’ named
People magazine has named George Clooney, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Selena GomezandRegina King as the “2020 People of the Year.”
The magazine revealed its listWednesday as part of a year-end double issue with four covers. The four will be celebrated for their positive impact in the world during a challenging 2020 and will be separately featured on the covers of the issue, which is out Friday.
Clooney has received someOscar buzz for his upcoming film “The Midnight Sky,” but the actorwas also in the spotlight for his advocacywork. He donated $500,000 to the Equal Justice Initiative inwake of George Floyd’s death and $1million forCOVID19 relief efforts in Italy, London and Los Angeles.
As the nation’s top infectious disease expert, Fauci provided steady guidance during the turbulent pandemic. As the director of theNational Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, he has been one of the nation’s leading sources of information about the fight against COVID-19.
Gomezreleased her chart-topping album “Rare” and hosted the cooking show“Selena + Chef” onHBOMax. But the pop superstar also spread her message of inclusion through hermakeup brandRare Beauty, which set the goal of raising $100 million in 10 years to help give people access to mental health initiatives.
King, whowon an Emmy in September, used her voice to encourage people to vote. The actor also called for support of marginalized communities during the pandemic and to end police brutality of unarmed Black people.
Her directorial debut, “OneNight in Miami,” has also been talked about as a possible Oscar contender.

OnTuesday, CBSnamed journalistElaineWelteroth and fitness instructor Amanda Kloots asnewco-hosts of popular daytime program “TheTalk.” Starting Jan. 4, the pair will join current emcees Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood and Carrie Ann Inaba for the 11th season of “TheTalk.”
“OMGMOMIGOT THEJOB,” an ecstatic Welteroth announced on Twitter after calling her mother, whohad assumed shewas pregnant when her daughter teased the big news in a video.
Kloots, a formerBroadway performer and RadioCityRockette, also expressed her excitement on social media after guest hosting “TheTalk” multiple times alongside Welteroth.
“Iamthrilled and honored to join this incredible cast and crew,” Kloots wrote on Instagram.
Estefan says she’s
recovered from COVID-19:
Singer and businesswoman Gloria Estefan saidWednesday that she spentmuch ofNovember in isolation after testing positive forCOVID-19, days after dining outdoors at a Miami-area restaurant.
Estefan, 63, says shewas fortunate, enduring only “a little bit of a cough” and dehydration after losing her sense of smell and taste, and has tested negative twice since recovering.
In a video shared on Instagram, the Cubanborn “Conga” singer says shewas infected despite rigorously following public health protocols, and speculates that she could have been exposed by a fanwho was notwearing a mask.
