This is an open letter to the Anne Arundel County Republican state delegates and senators: We all understand you are upset with County Executive Pittman right now.

You say you are upset because, in the name of health, they are putting further restrictions on businesses that will cause the businesses and their workers to lose money and risk losing their jobs and having to shutter their businesses. However, if your anger in this capacity is only directed at Democratic local leaders, it loses its sincerity and starts to ring very hollow.

Where is your rage at U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell? Why aren’t you telling all of your constituents of your outreach to the man who is denying providing Americans across the country, to include those within Maryland and Anne Arundel County, funding that would allow businesses to stay afloat and families to keep food on the table and pay their mortgage?

Where is your rage at outgoing President Donald Trump? Why aren’t you telling all of your constituents about how a Congress run by the president’s party is preventing them from getting monthly stimulus payments that could ease their financial concerns during these trying times?

When you ignore your own party’s malfeasance you become a person who picks fights not because you care about the people you serve but because you care that a power you want is held by the other party. You become a person who stokes anger instead of finding solutions.

If you have nothing to seriously offer to improve both the physical and financial health of the county, then please do what you have been doing for the past four months — just be quiet. We didn’t benefit from your viewpoints then and it’s difficult to see what benefit they are providing in this current moment.
