Eugene “Sonny” Kidwell, January 24, 2005; sister, Mary Susan “Sue” Cerutti, April 23, 2007; sister, Joan Lorraine Riley, February 4th, 2014; Daughter, Billie Sue Aisquith, June 25th, 2020; and son, Jeffrey J. Kidwell, July 9th, 2020. Joe was a long time member of the South Anne Arundel Lions Club. During his 50+ years with the Club, he served as the President twice and was the recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Award. He took great pride in organizing and participating in events held by the Lions Club, such as the Vision Program, International Lions Day, White Cane Day, local fruit sales, and various activities at the West River United Methodist Church’s Deaf and Blind Camp. The Lions Club allowed Joe to combine his love of community service with his love of travel. He and his wife of 65 years, attended numerous annual Lions Club Conventions across the globe, including Sydney, Australia, Hong Kong, China, and New York City, New York. Many of the connections he created during his time with the Lions Club, became cherished, life-long friendships. Joe started his engineering degree at Frostburg State University. Although he left early to begin his family, he earned credits over the years and proudly obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland University College in December 2002. Throughout his career, he was a Resident Maintenance Engineer for the State Highway Administration in Charles County and the Department of Public Works in Howard County. He was also employed with numerous engineering and planning agencies. He took great pride in the various projects he worked on around the state, including Baltimore City’s Light Rail system, numerous parks in Howard County and the planning of the Capital Beltway. Joe’s hobbies included traveling, hunting, fishing, and cars. If it was in-season and a friend was going out to hunt or fish, Joe was always willing to get up before the sun to join them in a duck or deer blind or on the boat. As proud as Joe was to serve his community, he was even more proud of his family. Family always came first to Joe and he would do whatever he could to make sure they were taken care of and looked after.
