The Capital

Everyone knows

-

Imust say Iwas shocked at the arbitrary and capricious court decision which enjoined the enforcement of the Anne Arundel County four-week ban on indoor dining in restaurants (The Capital, Dec. 18). It doesn’t take a scientist to know that indoor dining contributes to the spread of coronavirus, the teenager down the street knows.

The restaurant industry will not thrive until the virus is under control. My husband, friends and I used to eat out at least three times per week. I estimate that in the 10 months since March, we would have eaten out on the average of 120 times. That’s maybe $12,000 in lost revenue.

I would have had a large Christmas party and hired a caterer for the party. I would have traveled and eaten three meals a day in restaurants. Instead, we ate outdoors this summer four times and indoors once. And all of my friends and relatives are doing the same.

And why, because other people don’t follow the rules (including some of the restaurants who are plaintiff’s in this lawsuit). Former County Executive Steve Schuh and his restaurant buddies would do better to educate the public on steps everyone must take to stop this virus so all ofmy friends, relatives and I will return to restaurant eating.

That is what will save restaurants. Thank heavens for County Executive Pittman and Gov. Larry Hogan who are willing to make difficult, unpopular decisions to preserve public health.

Hopefully, their brave actions will help to control this nightmare. PAULA PETERS Annapolis
