Anne Arundel adds 349 cases, 3 deaths

Anne Arundel County added 349 confirmed coronaviru­s cases and three new deaths Wednesday, according to data from the Maryland Department of Health. The newly reported cases bring the case rate to 51.4 per 100,000 people, up from 49.1 on Tuesday, and a new record high.

The new cases for Anne Arundel are the second most recorded in a 24- hour period. The record was set last week when 363 cases were recorded on Dec. 30.

The total number of confirmed infections since March is now26,130, and at least 365 Anne Arundel County residents have died. Thirteen others are suspected to have died of the virus butwere never tested.

Across the state, at least 292,904 infections have been recorded since March, including 3,146 new cases reported on Wednesday. At least 5,960 Marylander­s have died of the virus, including 47 new deaths.

The statewide positivity rate reported Wednesday is 9.44%.

The vaccinatio­n effort across the state is underway — more than 86,000 residents have received their first shot, and at least 742 residents have received their second shot, according to the Maryland Department of Health.
