Film critics reward ‘ Nomadland’

“Nomadland” won four awards at this year’s National Society of Film Critics awards, including best picture, best cinematogr­aphy, best director and best actress.

Chloe Zhao’s filmwon the most awards at the 55th annual meeting for the organizati­on on Saturday.

FrancesMcD­ormand was named best actress for her role in “Nomadland,” whileZhao received best director.

MariaBakal­ovawon best supporting actress for her role in “Borat Subsequent­Moviefilm,” and Paul Raciwas given best supporting actor for his part in “Sound ofMetal.”

Delroy Lindowon best actor for his role in Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods.” Other awardswent to “Collective” for best foreign- language film, “Time” for the best nonfiction film. “NeverRarel­y Sometimes Always,” directed by Eliza Hittman, won for the best screenplay.

In a seven- minute video posted Sunday to Schwarzene­gger’sTwitter account, the actor and former governor of California comparedWe­dnesday’s events with 1938’ s Kristallna­cht, or theNight of Broken Glass, which marked the rise ofNazi Germany.

“I grewup inAustria. I’m very aware of Kristallna­cht, or theNight of Broken Glass. Itwas a night of rampage against the Jews carried out in 1938 by theNazi equivalent of the Proud Boys,”

Schwarzene­gger said. “Wednesdayw­as theDay of Broken Glass right here in theUnited States. The broken glasswas in the windows of theUnited States Capitol. But themob did not just shatter the windows of the Capitol. They shattered the ideas we took for granted.”

Schwarzene­gger said that his experience growing up inEurope has shownhim “firsthand howthings can spin out of control.” He then denouncedT­rump, saying that he “sought a coup by misleading people with lies.”

“My father and our neighborsw­ere misled also with lies, and I know where such lies lead,” Schwarzene­gger continued. “PresidentT­rump is a failed leader. Hewill go downin history as the worst president ever. The good thing is he will soon be as irrelevant as an old tweet.”
