Shame onHarris

Rep. Andy Harris has for years violated the very tenants of his profession, a physician. Medicine and others in healthcare have long recognized the importance of evidence- based practice, knowing that good practice is firmly grounded in evidence, not speculation.

However, Harris supported President Donald Trump’s claims that hydroxychloroquine was a good treatment for COVID- 19, that it was OK for Trump to speculate that people should use bleach and disinfectants as a strategy to deal with the coronavirus, that crowds gathering for his rallies should be urged to wear masks to mitigate their risk, that despite reviews by state electors, state courts, federal courts and the U. S. Supreme Court, he should vote to ignore the votes the citizens of several states.

Harris has reflected ill on the very very foundation of good medicine and the the principles of our republic. PATRICIAMcMULLEN Millersville

A sad time

It is such a sad time that we live in. So many with not only divergent views but violently so.

We have had multiple elections and yes my candidate was not always the victor; but never at least duringmy 80 years have the losers been so vindictive and disparaging to those who voted for the winner.

Regardless of your political views, it is clear that based on all the court decisions [ including judges appointed by both parties, and the SupremeCourt] that while there were a lot of alleged improprieties, there was no evidence to support them. Now we have those who say that the election was fixed simply because they don’t like the outcome.

There is a reason why so many from both parties say enough is enough. If you don’t like the resultswork tomake changes for a different outcome in 2024.

We should follow in the footsteps of those — from both parties — who after losing put the country first over themselves and their disappointment. You only have to look at those like Al Gore who lost by some six electoral votes and chose the honorable route.

Now we have a sore loser who once again has shown his true lack of character, first by inciting a riot and thenwhenthings got tough for him abandoned them. Sadly, this is his standard mode of operation.

We have President Donald Trump’s toadies, like U. S. Sens. Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz and Maryland’s own Rep. Andy Harris, who instead of standing up for the Constitution have instead debased themselves and decided they knew better than the courts and trampled on the rights of other states to administer their own rules as supported by the courts.

They have sold their souls for their possible political benefit. HILLARD HARRISON Annapolis

Misleading headline

The headline “Dems call for Trump’s removal” is in the least misleading ( The Capital, Jan. 7). It is only partially true and The Capital editors should be well aware of who is calling for removal of President Donald Trump. The call for removal of Trump is coming from both Democrats and Republicans. This fact is well documented in many news sources.

I wish your newspaper would take this opportunity to show that our politicians and the people are more united in repudiation of Trump’s seditious acts. I wish your newspaper would stop using pejorative and divisive rhetoric in headlines. Your headline is misleading.
