Glen Burnie man arrested in Dec. shooting that injured one

WalterLeeS­mithwas shot four times in the upper torso outside his Madison Street home inHarbourH­ouse on Dec. 17. Monday, Annapolis police arrested a Glen Burnie man on charges of attempted murder in the shooting.

Rodney Rashad Dorsey, 33, of Glen Burnie, faces charges of attempted firstand second- degree murder, first- and second- degree assault and misdemeano­r offenses of reckless endangerme­nt and use of a firearm in a felony crime. Dorsey did not have an attorney listed in online court recordsMon­day.

Smith, a Harbour House resident, was inside an apartment with multiple people on the 1100 block ofMadison Street when he was shot. Officers responded around 6 p. m. and called for an airlift to a regional trauma center. Smith is still in the hospital Monday, police said.

Police said the day after the shooting they had a strong lead on a suspect. A warrant was later issued for Dorsey, identified as the shooter. Officers saw Dorsey on Jan. 6 on the same street the shooting occurred. After a short foot chase, Dorsey was arrested and additional­ly charged with firearm and drug offenses after officers confiscate­d a loaded .38 caliber handgun and suspected crack cocaine in his possession, police said.

Dorsey is being held without bail. He was on probation when the shooting occurred for a 2019 traffic and drug offense.
