Aside from addressing President Donald Trump’s destruction of government agencies, institutions, politics, social justice, race relations, public health, international affairs, the environment, global climate, trust, and truth I believe Maryland’s Congress members must act quickly and comprehensively to support the U.S. Postal Service.

Like millions of others, I have experienced the consequences of Trump’s undermining of this critical institution. Recently the staff at the Maryland Department of Budget and Management wrote me that they had failed to receive my Feb. 1 health insurance payment.

A few weeks earlier I also received two delinquent notices from the Annapolis Finance Office saying it hadn’t received my water bill payment and threatening to cut off my service. In each case, the State Employees Credit Union of Maryland sent them checks well before the due dates, but it took three weeks for them to arrive.

In addition, it took three-plus weeks for my Christmas gift (mailed first class) to arrive at its U.S. destination (in early January).

Thousands, if not millions, of Marylanders, not to mention millions of other American individuals, companies, and institutions have suffered these unconscionable delays, yet I’ve seen nothing in the media to suggest that Congress is doing anything whatsoever to address this serious problem.

Let’s all strongly encourage our Congress members to take prompt action on this important issue.
