Nearly 6K more receive shots in county, 14% now fully vaccinated

Another 5,988 Anne Arundel County residents were vaccinated against COVID-19 Thursday.

As of Thursday, 14% of the county is fully inoculated and about a quarter of the population is waiting for a second dose of Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.

Statewide 2,422,963 doses have gone into bodies, of the 2,707,170 distribute­d to health care providers. There are 854,497 Marylander­s fully vaccinated.

The county is now vaccinatin­g people in Phase 2A, which includes everyone age 60 or older. Phase 2B will begin Tuesday and includes Maryland residents age 16 or older with an underlying health condition that makes COVID-19 infection riskier.

Phase 2C, which includes everyone 55 and older as well as essential workers, will begin on April 13.

Everyone not covered in a previous category will be eligible for the vaccine on April 27.

Anne Arundel County reported 122 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday and one new death.The total number of confirmed infections since March of 2020 is now 38,308, and at least 548 Anne Arundel County residents have died. Fourteen others are suspected of having died of the virus but were never tested.

Across the state, at least 405,343 infections have been recorded since March 2020, and at least 8,047 Marylander­s have died of the virus. The state recorded another 1,361 cases Thursday and another 15 deaths.

The county’s positivity rate went up slightly to 6.46% Thursday, and the statewide rate also increased slightly to 4.64%, from 4.59%.

The state reported 933 Maryland residents hospitaliz­ed with COVID-19 Thursday.

About 701 of those patients require acute care beds, and another 232 are receiving more serious care. In Anne Arundel County, hospitaliz­ations reached 58 total patients, down from Wednesday but still up from a week ago. Fourteen needed intensive care.
