Police identify victim in first Annapolis homicide of ’21

Annapolis police have identified the man shot to death Saturday night as a 25-yearold Glen Burnie man.

Marc Terrell Hill Jr. was found around 7:30 p.m., laying in the breezeway of a residential building at 702 Newtowne Drive. He was suffering from gunshot wounds.

Hill was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.

Police declined to provide any additional details about the shooting Monday other than Hill’s name.

Hill’s death marks the city’s first homicide in 2021 but is one of a number of recent incidents on Newtowne Drive.

On March 23, Annapolis police charged an 18-year-old man with attempted murder after a shooting and a robbery on Newtowne Drive. Kamal Davis, of Annapolis, was arrested after a man was injured before 7 p.m.

Shots were fired again in the 700 block

around 12:40 a.m. on March 31. Annapolis police reported several vehicles and at least one building were damaged by bullets. There were no injuries and no arrests have been made.

Sunday, Alderwoman Sheila Finlayson, whose Ward 4 includes Newtowne Drive, said she wanted crisis response units to go to the Woodside Gardens apartment complex where the fatal shooting took place.

She wants them to help with the trauma and crime that has been increasing. Finlayson will be speaking to the owner of the complex. Finlayson doesn’t know why there has been an increase in crime, but she thinks there are more guns on the street.

Finlayson is working to get a training program into Annapolis to give residents an opportunity to make a living.

Although this was the first homicide in Annapolis this year, it is not the first homicide to touch Annapolis in 2021.

A 21-year-old Annapolis man was shot and killed in Glen Burnie on March 25. Jaylin Tyrek King was found in a parking lot at 300 block of Gatewater Court. He died at the scene.

No arrests have been made in the homicide, and neither ounty nor city police responded to questions about any possible links between the two crimes.
