Kathleen Young

-

Kathleen Cole Young passed away peacefully in her sleep on 27 March 2021. Born in Philadelphia on July 14, 1927, to Kathryn and Thomas Cole, she graduated from Lansdowne High School in 1945, and afterwards worked while attending community college. She married the love of her life, Casanave “Pete” Young, on June 7, 1950, and spent the next twenty years moving from duty station to duty station with the Navy and raising her sons.

Always willing to volunteer at school and in the community, Kathleen was a bright soul who loved people and enjoyed helping in anyway she could. From 1966 until Pete’s death in 2012 they lived in Vienna Virginia, where Kathleen supported countless friends and school and community organizations. She was especially active in her gardening and choir clubs, and supporting the activities of her sons. Additionally, she was close to her extended family, and was a prolific writer of letters.

Kathleen lived the last 9 years of her life in Annapolis, Maryland, a place very special to her as she spent so much time there while dating her husband, who was US Naval Academy Class of 1950, and lived there in the late 1950s while Pete taught Physics at USNA.

Kathleen is survived by her son, Thomas, a Georgetown University graduate and HS teacher in New Jersey, son Peter (USNA 1982) a retired Navy Captain, and his wife, Maura, of Annapolis, Maryland, granddaughters Caitlen Petschke (Eric) of Johnson City, Tennessee, Carey Schuele (Jeff) of Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, grandson Samuel Young of Baltimore, MD, and her six great-grandchildren, Barrett, Hadley, Graeme, Erin, Declan, and Hunter, all of whom she loved to dote on. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church

and Our Lady of Good Counsel in Vienna, VA.

She will be inurned at the USNA Columbarium, reunited again with her husband of 62 years, Pete, at a later date.
