JOE HELLER

-

A good example is how President Joe Biden proposes to pay the $2.3 trillion price tag on his proposed infrastructure plan. His plan would raise the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28%, punish companies that move profits overseas, and introduce a rule meant to prevent companies from paying zero taxes.

The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy recently reported that former President Donald Trump’s 2017 tax overhaul allowed 55 big companies to pay zero income taxes last year.

In my assessment, Biden’s proposal is not socialism. On the contrary, is it basic Christianity, “From everyone to whom much is given, much will be required...” Luke 12:48

In secular terms, this means, “Those who benefit the most should pay the most.” No more corporate welfare.

Through many of Gov. Larry Hogan’s ideas to fund this and fund that, his lack of focus on Maryland’s infrastructure is startling.

Take Anne Arundel County, the county that includes your State House, your private home and the Capitol of Maryland.

The roads are in horrible condition, the overpasses are full of mold and other grime that covers the beautiful red brick. There are light posts that are on the ground, signs that direct traffic that are broken or down and basically the infrastructure is in terrible condition.

I am not sure why you think it is not an important part of your legacy as governor. The ramps of many roads to include the ramps off Jennifer Road to Route 50 which are startling to see.

Please, take a look at Route 2, Route 3 and Interstate 97, where cement potholes jar your car.

I know we have been under a COVID-19 threat and have lost many Marylanders. I mourn them also. But as we are coming back to normal, let us fix the infrastructure.

Go on SHA or MDOT web pages and look at the dearth of projects being done. I think that at the State Highway Administration and Maryland Department of Transportation there are many people warming chairs.

I have a letter from a previous transportation director that lists all the projects I just mentioned and their finish dates. They all would have been done several years ago.

Please, Gov. Hogan, fix the bedrock of Anne Arundel County.
