Another 6,191 Anne Arundel County residents vaccinated

Another 6,191 Anne Arundel residents received a COVID-19 vaccine over the last 24 hours, but for another two residents, it was too late as the county recorded two more deaths.

The added inoculatio­ns mean about 24% of the county population has been fully vaccinated. There are 199,587 residents who received at least one dose of a coronaviru­s vaccine.

Statewide, more than 1,494,228 people are fully vaccinated. The state opened another mass vaccinatio­n in Annapolis Thursday at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

The county is now vaccinatin­g people ages 16 and older with a focus on those who have disabiliti­es or underlying medical conditions that increase the risk of severe COVID-19 illness.

Anne Arundel County reported 165 new coronaviru­s cases and two new deaths Thursday. Maryland reported 1,444 new cases and 19 new deaths.

The county case rate continues its slow rise to 24.7 cases per 100,000 people.

The total number of confirmed infections since March is now 40,905, and at least 568 Anne Arundel County residents have died. Fourteen others are suspected of having died of the virus but were never tested.

Across the state, at least 431,795 infections have been recorded since March 2020, and at least 8,326 Marylander­s have died of the virus.

About 7.7% of tests for the virus in Anne Arundel County came back positive. The statewide positivity rate reported Wednesday is 5.78%.

The state reported 1,244 Maryland residents are hospitaliz­ed with COVID-19. About 954 of those patients require acute care beds, and another 290 are receiving more serious care.

In Anne Arundel County, hospitaliz­ations reached 93 total patients, a reduction of 6 from yesterday. Of them, 78 needed acute care beds and the other 15 were in ICU.
