Freshman Gerow guides UMBC past Vermont

Freshman Dymin Gerow had a career-high five goals Saturday afternoon to help UMBC win, 11-8, over host Vermont in women’s college lacrosse.

UMBC moves to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in America East play, while the Catamounts fall to 4-5 overall and 4-3 in conference contests.

The Retrievers held a 7-4 lead at halftime, but the Catamounts netted the first goal in the second half to cut the lead to two.

Navy 12, Colgate 5: Grace Zagaja and Nicole Victory each scored three goals to lead the host Mids (6-3, 2-2 Patriot League) over the Raiders (4-4, 3-3). Navy was originally scheduled to host American, but COVID-19 protocols within the Eagles program resulted in a postponement. Navy will travel to American on Saturday.

The Mids used a balanced attack to score six goals per half. Navy defense held Colgate to two goals in the second half. Goalie Jo Torres (St. Mary’s) made five saves for Navy.

Notre Dame (Md.) 19, Cedar Crest 1: Julie Hagis (Havre de Grace) scored seven goals and Sara Morales (Catholic) had five goals and five assists to lead the host Gators to a perfect regular-season record of 5-0, 5-0 Colonial States Athletic Conference. The Falcons fell to 0-4, 0-4. Notre Dame will host the fourth seed in Wednesday’s conference semifinal.

Salisbury 14, St. Mary’s 13, OT: Lydia McNulty (Broadneck) scored the game-winner assisted by Lauren Valenti with 4:46 left in overtime to lift the visiting Sea Gulls (11-0, 6-0 Coast to Coast Conference) over the Seahawks (6-4, 2-4). Lily Davison (Dulaney) scored the tying goal for St. Mary’s, 13-13, with 4:46 left in regulation. The Seahawks outscored Salisbury, 10-4, in the second half.

McDaniel16, Muhlenberg 6: The host Green Terror (2-3, 2-2 Centennial Conference) took a 9-3 lead in the first half and beat the Mules (1-2, 1-2). Leading scorers for McDaniel included: Abby Blankenship with four goals and Kealey Allison and Emma Miller (Marriotts Ridge) with three goals each. Hannah Miller (Marriotts Ridge) made six saves for the Green Terror.

Charleston (W. Va.) 17, Frostburg State 15: The Golden Eagles (4-7, 3-5 Mountain East Conference) went on a 9-0 run in the second half to take charge. The Bobcats (7-4, 6-2) put together a three-goal rally over the final 6:16, but came up short.

Franklin & Marshall 15, Washington College 6: The visiting Diplomats (4-0, 3-0 Centennial Conference) scored 11 goals in the second half to beat the Shorewomen (3-3, 2-2). Colleen Keefe (Notre Dame Prep) had a hat trick and Abby Laubach scored twice for Washington College,
