Arnett offering an independent voice for Ward 8

- By Ross Arnett Annapolis Alderman

If you want an alderperson who knows Ward 8 issues and needs, including traffic, speeding, parking, potholes, sidewalk repairs, the conflicting needs of residents and businesses, the burden of taxes and fees, water access and who will continue to represent your interests in these areas to the administration and on the City Council, then you want to reelect me.

If you want an alderperson who holds regular town hall meetings for ALL of Ward 8 to hear from you and inform you about important matters, who sends out biweekly emails with the City Council meeting agenda that state how and why I will vote at those meetings, and who has demonstrated experience, leadership and dedication to get the job done well, then you want to reelect me.

If you want an alderperson who knows the city budgeting process, who votes for legislation to improve the financial process, who fights to hold down spending and who understands that in the coming years spending growth that exceeds revenue growth is not sustainable, then you want to reelect me.

If you want an alderperson who works to pass major environmental legislation on forest conservation, critical areas and watershed improvement, who was a member of the Weather It Together planning team to prepare for sea-level rise and who knows that after we protect downtown from sea-level rise, we need to protect other low-lying areas such as Ward 8, then you want to reelect me.

If you want an alderperson who knows the City Code for all aspects of planning and zoning, who sponsored all the adequate public facility codes for the city, who brings about code changes to make the permitting process more open and balanced for residents and applicants alike, and who understands the problems and pressures that come with redeveloping a fully built-out city, then you want to reelect me.

If you want an alderperson who works to recruit and retain public safety officers, who is a member of the Police and Fire Pension Board responsible for the investments that support public safety personnel retirement, who supports recruitment practices to achieve the full complement of sworn police officers, who supports community policing and the philosophical move from arrest to assist, who led the effort to create the Office of Community Services to address social needs and who sees the need to address the socioeconomic factors behind crime and substance abuse, then you want to reelect me.

During the next term I will continue to help improve our financial processes as I work to balance revenue and expenditure growth. I will refine legislation to control emissions, redouble our efforts to clean our waterways, and improve our tree canopy for better air quality and to help stop climate change.

I will continue to work to improve our permitting processes to make them fair and open for al and to help develop a good comprehensive plan to guide future development in the city. I will work to get our police department to full force, change to community policing and further enhance our social support system to help those in need. I worked hard for improvements in these critical areas in the past, and I will continue to work hard for you in the next term.

If you want an alderperson who is an independent voice for Ward 8 and the city, then you want to reelect me.

Thank you,

Ross
