Rest, not surgery, likely for Rodgers
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected to use rest to treat his fractured pinkie toe and not undergo surgery during the team’s off week.
Coach Matt LaFleur said Monday that Rodgers is “gathering other opinions, so we’ll see where that goes,” but according to reports those opinions aren’t expected to lead to surgery at this time.
The Packers (9-3) next play Dec. 12 in a prime-time game against the rival Bears.
Rodgers, the reigning league MVP, led the Packers to a 36-28 victory over the Rams on Sunday. He threw for two TDs and ran for a score.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Thursday night’s game against the Saints. Defensive coordinator and former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn will serve as the Cowboys’ interim coach. McCarthy is among six coaches and staff members not making the trip to New Orleans because of positive tests. RT Terence Steele also is out after testing positive .. ... The league suspended Cowboys DT Trysten Hill two games for punching Raiders G John Simpson following the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day loss to the Raiders. Hill will appeal . ... Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey will miss the restof the season because of a left ankle injury suffered in the first half of Sunday’s 33-10 loss to the Dolphins. McCaffrey, an All-Pro in 2019, missed 13 games last season and will end up missing 10 this season due to injuries. ... Vikings RB Dalvin Cook dislocated his shoulder during Sunday’s loss to the 49ers, ESPN reported. Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Cook is “day to day.”
Baseball: The Rangers and two-time All-Star SS Corey Seager agreed to a 10-year, $325 million deal, according to reports. Seager, 27, won NL rookie of the year in 2016 and 2020 World Series MVP as a member of the Dodgers . ... Reigning AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray and the Mariners were close to agreement on a five-year, $115 million contract with an opt-out after the third season, ESPN reported. The lefthanded Ray, 30, was 13-7 with a league-best 2.84 ERA in 32 starts for the Blue Jays last season.
College basketball: Duke jumped four spots to the top of the AP Top 25 poll following a win against then-No. 1 Gonzaga. The Bulldogs dropped to No. 3, behind Purdue, defending national champ Baylor was No. 4 and UCLA was No. 5.
College football: Oklahoma sophomore QB Spencer Rattler, the preseason Heisman Trphy favorite who was benched early this season, is entering the transfer portal. Rattler made the announcement a day after Sooners coach Lincoln Riley was hired by USC . ... Washington named Kalen DeBoer its new coach. DeBoer, 47, went 12-6 over the last two seasons at Fresno State.
NBA: Nets G Joe Harris will undergo surgery on his injured left ankle and is expected to miss four to eight weeks, his agent told ESPN. Harris, 30, is averaging 11.3 points per game and shooting 46.6% from 3-point range.
NHL: The league suspended Bruins winger Brad Marchand three games for slew-footing Canucks D Oliver Ekman-Larsson on Sunday.
