Tim was born on December 29, 1942 in Irvington, New Jersey to Anthony and Helen Mennuti. He was the first in his family to attend college, receiving his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University-Newark and later graduating from American University with a Master’s Degree. He joined the Navy in 1964 and served for twenty-two years in various assignments across the Philippines, Germany, England, and the United States, where he finished his service at the Pentagon. He retired from the Navy in 1986 as a Commander and embarked on a second career as an educator in the Anne Arundel County Public School System. Tim valued education and the opportunities it afforded him throughout his life, attributing his love of learning to his own grandfather, who taught Tim how to read at a young age. He taught a variety of subjects, before being elected President of the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County (TAAAC), a position he held until his retirement in 2012. Throughout his life, Tim was involved in a number of civic and community organizations, including volunteering at Boat Show weekends and coaching youth soccer. He enjoyed monthly poker nights with his poker buddies, and loved to talk about the game he won with a Royal Flush. He enjoyed a good conversation, some of the most interesting beginning with the phrase “apropos of nothing”. His genuine interest in learning everything about the people he met in the places he lived and traveled led to lifelong friendships across the globe.
