Why I’m running for county GOP central committee

For years, I have been listening to people complain about their government and their political party. And every time somebody complains to me, my advice to them is the same: “If you can do better, run.”

For the last several years, I have critiqued the way Republicans have been operating the party and what the party priorities are in trying to win elections here in Maryland.

So, I took my own advice. This year, I am the conservative candidate for Anne Arundel Republican Central Committee in Council District 3.

What does a central committee do? Well, the central committee in the individual counties is the governing body of that county party. The county central committee members make up the state central committee. It is the ultimate responsibility of the county central committee to ensure that candidates are found, are trained, and have the tools and resources available to win elections and implement Republican priorities.

So why am I running? Because county Republicans have been too focused on superficial activities instead of focusing on the core responsibilities of growing a movement. Engaging in activities that may be easy and designed to garner attention may draw attention, but they do nothing to grow the party and elect more conservative Republicans to office.

Have you noticed that there is no Republican running for state’s attorney? That is a failure and something that should have been addressed during the four years since the last election. It was an avoidable problem.

Here’s what I am; an experienced campaigner, a bold strategist, a meticulous planner, and a principled conservative. I am 100% pro-life, from conception until natural death. I am supportive of the rights of gun owners, against higher taxes, against bigger government, and I am for schools that focus on education instead of politics.

I also stick by my principles. When County Councilman Nathan Volke asked me to serve on the Salary Standard Commission last year, he knew it was because I was a dedicated conservative who would not bend to the will of Democrats. That made me the only member of the commission who did not vote for higher salaries and more benefits for politicians at taxpayer expense.

I stand on my principles. Even when I stand alone.

Here’s what I am not. I am not somebody who wants to serve on the central committee for 30 years doing the same things over and over again and wondering why the results never change. I am not somebody who is running for central committee to gain higher name recognition as a steppingstone to higher office. And I am not somebody who wants to be on the central committee to do the political bidding of somebody else.

My focus will be only on electing more conservative Republicans in our county. It’s a simple, effective way for making our county a better place to live.

Republican values are under attack from all sides. From government. From Democrats. From well-funded interest groups. Our county needs leaders in our party who are focused and ready to deal with those challenges.

I have the experience, the tools, and the wherewithal necessary to get the job done.

Voters this year don’t just have to hope for a better Republican Party; they can vote for one by voting for Brian Griffiths. I humbly ask you for your vote on July 19.
