In support of Fiedler

-

The spouse of Amanda Fiedler’s opponent asked a question about why the FOP endorsed her candidacy for reelection for the County Council in a recent letter. As a retired 21-year veteran Detention Officer in the county, I am thrilled with this endorsement and know it’s well deserved.

Getting to know Fiedler over the years she’s served on the council, I have seen how tirelessly she works for her district. Amanda is a friend to public safety and has displayed leadership on the council, bringing together Republicans and Democrats to support law enforcement.

Being a council member is more than legislating. Fiedler spends numerous hours meeting with residents and groups in the community as well as law enforcement to discuss issues in the community, ideas, and collaboration. One’s record cannot be judged on budgetary votes alone. Rather, voters must also consider the bills that come before the council to address issues involving public safety departments, including retirement options, and positions for growth within the agencies. Fiedler has a strong record of supporting law enforcement not just in the public eye, but in her daily interactions with the community, highlighting the hard work public safety officers do in our county to protect our citizens and retain our valued officers. I wonder if the author of this attack on Fiedler requested a meeting to discuss concerns, as she is known for her responsiveness and thoughtful considerations.

Fiedler has been working hard for four years, while the author has been silent until it was politically convenient. Fiedler’s opponent is hoping a smear campaign will flick away the tremendous work she has done and is counting on voters not being familiar with the council’s role, and the amount of time she has committed to serving with integrity.

Fiedler has the endorsement of the FOP, and private individuals like me, who know that she’s working hard to make our neighborhoods safer. — Jerry Shandrowsky, Pasadena
