A Laurel woman has been arrested in connection with the death of Antwaun Conyers, a 32-year-old from New Carrollton killed Wednesday, while police look for the man who allegedly shot him.

Rakyia Denise Talley, 46, was taken into custody Friday, two days after Conyers was found shot on Russett Green East in Laurel, Anne Arundel County Police said. She has been charged with firstand second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and several firearm offenses.

Talley is represented by a public defender and is being held without bond.

Police announced Monday they are searching for Christopher Rojas, 27, also of Laurel, who they believe shot Conyers.

Shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday, officers and paramedics found Conyers beside the roadway suffering from at least one gunshot wound. There were multiple cartridge cases on the ground near him, according to court filings.

Video surveillance obtained by police showed Conyers walking along Russett Green East when a gray Nissan Altima approaches and stops beside him. A witness told police they saw a man step out of the vehicle and shoot Conyers with a handgun. From the footage, investigators were able to pair the vehicle with Talley, a “close personal associate” of Rojas’.

The day before Conyers’ death, police met with Rojas near Russett Green East after the 27-year-old reported his car stolen. Talley was with Rojas when he accused someone matching Conyers’ description of stealing his vehicle.

The next morning, 10 minutes before the shooting occurred, Rojas and Talley were spotted at an unnamed business near the intersection of Russett Green East and Laurel Fort Meade Road where Rojas had found his vehicle in the parking lot. While he was inquiring about the vehicle, he saw Conyers walking nearby, according to charging documents, and said he was going to shoot him.

Police said Rojas and Talley then entered the Altima, with Talley behind the wheel, and drove in Conyers’ direction. Conyers was killed less than six minutes later and less than 300 meters from the business, according to charging documents.

Police have issued an active warrant against Rojas and are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts call 410-222-4731 or the TipLine at 410-2224700.
