A 54-year-old woman was killed Sunday after being struck by a car in Annapolis, police said.

The pedestrian, identified as Mary Johannes Summers by Anne Arundel Police, was hit around 11 p.m. while crossing the southbound lanes of Riva Road. She was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing and was hit by a 2016 Ford Focus, police said.

The 17-year-old driver of the car was not injured and remained on the scene.

Summers was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.

The police department’s Traffic Safety Section is investigating the crash, the most recent in a string of collisions involving pedestrians and bicyclists in the last three months.

On Dec. 30, a car struck Eastport resident James “Sammy” Keller as he was crossing Chesapeake Avenue near State Street. The hit-and-run caused serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury. A suspect has not been identified in the crash.

Nearly two weeks later, on Jan. 12, a 57-year-old bicyclist was struck by a vehicle in Jessup, suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries. On Jan. 24, another bicyclist, 74-year-old Zarko Peruza, was traveling home from his job at the Safeway on Forest Drive when an unknown vehicle struck him near Hilltop Lane and Merryman Road. Peruza was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle that hit Peruza did not remain on the scene and has not been located, police said.

On Jan. 29, Rhoda Cabauatan, a 63-year-old Naval Academy staff member, was killed while crossing in front of a vehicle on Route 665.

The motorist stayed on the scene and police said pedestrian error “appears to be a factor” in the crash.

An 89-year-old pedestrian, Xiu Zhi Dai, was struck and killed Thursday night in Glen Burnie attempting to cross East Furnace Branch Road, according to Anne Arundel Police. Dai, a Glen Burnie resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, an Odenton resident, waited for emergency personnel.
