-

In 4A girls, Urbana ran away with the title with 65 points. Blake (38), Old Mill (35), Severna Park (31) and C.H. Flowers (29) rounded out the top five.

Old Mill’s best event was the 55, where Jasmine Cook won the state title in 7.16 seconds. Teammate Ariana Wright took fourth in 7.3.

“It was mainly for me to focus on driving out, getting a good foundation at the start so I can finish well,” Cook said.

“I’m very proud of Jasmine, I love her so much,” Wright said. “It’s my last senior meet, I said, let’s have some fun and get it done.”

Wright also finished fifth in the 300 (41.59) and Isabella Shanley was fifth in the 500 (1:19.5). The Patriots took third in a pair of relays. Cook, Shanley, Wright and Aniyah Willimas finished third in the 4x200 (1:46.18), while Shanley, Williams, Wright and Asya Alejo took third in the 4x400 (4:07.21).

Striking gold

In 4A, Arundel’s Noel Evans was a two-time gold medalist. She started her day winning the 500 (1:17.96).

“I was [the] No. 1 time going into it,” Evans said of her 500 win. “I knew I had to keep it up. First time using blocks ever in indoor, I made sure to get out and once I started getting challenged, I knew I had to book it. I had to find something else in me that I can use. I just powered through that last 100.”

She closed the day teaming with Grace Hickman, Audrey Owens and Bryce Hatcher to win the 4x400 in 4:03.80.

“We’ve been doing this all season,” Hickman said. “We haven’t lost a 4x4 and we’re ranked in the nation, we did what we do best.”

Also, Brodneck’s Carson Boteler won the pole vault, clearing 10 feet. Teammates Avery Smith (fourth, 8-3) and Taylor Hannon (eighth, 8-6) placed behind her in the event. Also for Broadneck, Casey Gish was fourth in the high jump (5 feet).

In the 4A boys side, Old Mill’s Joseph DeRosier won the 55 hurdles in 7.47 seconds. He followed up with a third in the 300 (35.63), and a second in the 4x200 relay with Jasiyuse McGirt, Chancellor DeRosier and Roy Brooks-Foster (1:32.34).

North County’s Israel Ogwu, who made the most of a second chance in the 500 after getting pushed down during his initial regional race, finished second at states in 1:08.09, a tenth of a second behind the winner.

Also finishing high, Crofton’s Victoria Marston took second in the 3A girls high jump clearing 5-2 and South River’s Morgan Mims finished third in the 4A girls 500 in 1:18.96.
