Charles “Gordy” McBee

-

Charles Gordon McBee passed away peacefully on March 16, 2023 surrounded by family. Gordy, born in Baltimore in 1939, was the oldest of Mary and Charles’ eight children. Gordy was a lifelong avid athlete, playing soccer, baseball, and basketball before moving on to tennis and golf. He signed a minor league baseball contract, and in 2008 he was proudly inducted into the University of Baltimore Hall of Fame. In addition to sports, Gordy also loved hunting with his family, spending many happy hours at Mary Oak Farm.

Gordy graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1958 and from the University of Baltimore with a degree in Business Management and Finance. He went on to work at National Plastics, Nevamar, and International Paper.

Nothing was more important to Gordy than his family. Gordy loved coaching his kids soccer, baseball, and softball teams, then later watching his grandkids in their many sports and dancing adventures. A long time member of Chartwell Country Club, he enjoyed countless rounds of golf with his children and brothers. He also loved taking his grandchildren to his brother’s to go crabbing every summer, although they took more crabs from the traps than they caught.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peg; his daughters Trish (Jim) and Amy (Mitch) and son Chuck; grandkids Katy (Christopher), AJ, Mady, Carli (Ryan), Abby, Zoe, and George, and great grandson Zachary; his parents; and siblings Peggy (Ed), Jerry (Lois), Anita (Mark), and Mike (Bridget) and was preceded in death by brothers Austin, Allen, and Hal.

The family is planning a celebration of life in May.
