Armed robbery suspects possibly linked to similar incident in Chattanooga

-

The Fort Oglethorpe Police Department has released more information regarding an armed robbery on Cloud Springs Road earlier this month, which left two people wounded and two male suspects on the run.

Detectives say that two men they initially thought to be persons of interest in the case are now considered to be suspects and could be linked to a similar robbery in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The suspects are described as one white, possibly Hispanic male, and a short black male.

The white male suspect began firing a pistol about 3:45 a.m. Thursday, April 2, as the duo entered the Kangaroo gas station on Cloud Springs Road near the 353 exit at I-75.

A male customer was shot in the leg, and then the suspects stole cash and lotto tickets from the store before also robbing a second customer.

According to police chief David Eubanks, the men then took off on foot, but not before firing several times at a van as the driver was attempting to take the wounded customer to the hospital.

As the men were leaving, the wounded male customer was being helped into a van so that he could be transported to the hospital, at which time things got even dicier for those nearby.

“The men fired several rounds at the van in the parking lot, and one of those rounds struck a female driver in the lower left leg,” sergeant detective Brad Palmer said.

Both wounded parties were deemed OK after suffering non life-threatening injuries.
